Hi guys and gals,

Hope you did not grow weary of reading the Awake Portugal trip notes.  Let me see if I can cheer you up.  By my prayer Jacuzzi (in our community pool area), a neighbor told me he had seen a bumper sticker saying, "Clinton did it between the bushes."

 (Note: George Bush was the U.S. president from 1989 to 1993.  Clinton was president 1993-2001.  George W. Bush [the first George Bush's son] is the current president.)

August 4, 2001 - Saturday

Did not have any assignment until six o'clock in the afternoon.  Pam knocked on the door to check what Lori and I planned on doing for the day.  This made me get out of bed.  After shower, while praying I dozed off.  So, I asked Jesus, "Sorry, I've just prayed for the ones I needed to pray for.  I'm so sleepy.  If you don't mind, can I sleep some more?"  Got up again at 1 p.m. and started doing trip notes.  Woke Lori up at 3:15 p.m.  She slept all the way through.  This surprised me.  She is a good sleeper for sure.

Last night when taking a bath, I prayed about what to say in the video clip to encourage others to become harvest partners with Steve.  At 5:30 p.m., I prayed again and wrote down my script.  We gathered at 6 p.m. to take the subway to the crusade.  Time flew.  Tonight was the last night. 
 

Video Clipping


When we arrived, the afternoon concert was finishing up.  The cameramen prepared the equipment.  The video shooting started right on the platform at 7:15 p.m.  Bob Rogers was coordinating the effort.  He asked us to simply speak from our hearts.  Couples went first.  There wasn't enough time for all.  The last four in the line could not do it.  I was the last one in line.  While walking off the back stage, Jim called me back and I did the video clipping.  Could it be because I was the only Asian face on the team?  Praise God.  He gave me the opportunity.  Here's what I said, (Everyone needed to say the first three introduction sentences.)

"I am Yvonne Tsai.  I am at the Awake Portugal crusade.  I want to share why I've become a harvest partner.  God has used Steve's repentance message to go deep into my spirit as to what and how to repent.  I've learned to repent for myself, my family, my country and all others I care about. 

Asians, I encourage you.  Be a partner.  Be Jesus' partner.  Be Steve's partner.  Support the ministry.  Help Steve take the message of salvation and repentance to all the nations.  Then, Jesus will come again."

May this clipping glorify the Lord and attract other Asians to become partners and board of governors with Steve and Together in the Harvest Ministry.
 

The 4th and Last Awake Portugal Crusade


Oh, boy, it was the coldest night of all.  The wind blew constantly.  With Lori's lifesaving BUM sweatshirt, I still froze to death.  The guys all had put on their suits and ties to keep warm.  Still, they felt cold.  A lot of local ladies wore dresses and skirts.  Young men wore T-shirts only.  I did not know how they survived.  The Lord had little mercy on us, I thought to myself.  Only a day later, I realized "Oh, wow, praise God.  The wind could have blown even stronger and the temperature could have been much colder, without His mercy of keeping the wind down for us."

Tonight was the second time Steve led the offering.  Teen Challenge (TC) was still $15,000 short on the crusade bills.  (TC wanted to give Steve a love offering.  Steve, however, did not want to take any gift but to give.  This is also why Steve needs more partners so the crusades can be paid for.  Then, the local churches can just focus on getting souls in and not to worry about the expenses.)  Steve asked all the TC students and staff stood in front of the stage and faced the audience.  Hundreds came to stood in front of us.  They wee the miracles God created.  Ushers came to the front and stood across the field.  We walked forward to present the offering, while TC people prayed for us.  My tears went together with the money into the offering bag. 
 

Local Churches United


Steve also complimented the local churches.  Different denominations have been working closely together.  They are in unity for God to move in Lisbon and Portugal.  This has been the first large crusade ever in this country and a successful one.  There were about 3000 attendees the first night, 3500 the second night, 4000 the third night and 4500 the fourth night.  Many repeatedly came.  About 500 were saved each night.  Churches have also been working hard on following up with all those who came to the altar.

I thought about Chinese in Taiwan and China.  Chinese are weak in coming together in unity and in teamwork.  Mostly everyone wants to be the boss.  Satan has an easy job on division among Chinese.  May the Lord uproot our weaknesses and rebuild us in His spirit of unity so Chinese churches will have victory in teaming together to win the lost. 
 

Jeri's Story


In his sermon, Steve told the story of his wife Jeri's salvation.  When Jeri's mother was 17 years old she was raped after coming out of a football game.  Some tried to convince her of an abortion but she refused to kill the baby.  Later, she married a man and had two other children.  Her husband left her.  She then had a second marriage and had more children.  The second husband became alcoholic and violent.  When Jeri was ten years old her stepfather hit her and siblings frequently.  Jeri's brother was beaten so bad that he had brain damage.  Jeri began to use drugs.  Devil began to tell her she was merely the product of a street rape and she was a failure.  Jeri felt she would better off dead than living.  Then, there was a Lutheran pastor knocking on the door every Saturday morning and telling Jeri, "Jesus loves you.  He has a plan for your life."  Jeri slammed the door on him.  This never-take-no-for-an-answer pastor persisted for two years.  Jeri's family moved away.  The pastor could find her no more.  He knelt and asked Jesus, "Where is she?  Lord, I need to reach her."  God gave the pastor a vision as to where Jeri's new home was.  Pastor knocked on the door.  Jeri's jaw dropped open.  She could not believe the pastor could discover her again.  Jeri surrendered and asked him to come into the house.  But, her stepfather threatened to call the police if the pastor would come again.  God's plan prevailed.  In few weeks, Jeri accepted Jesus as her Savior and went to Teen Challenge and then the Bible school.  (She and Steve met and fell in love with each other.  They have totally dedicated themselves to the Lord and been married for 23 years.  Together, they served on mission fields in Argentina, Costa Rica and Russia.  They have three children.)
 

Late Night Team Meeting


We had a team meeting after returning to the hotel.  Many members shared specific healing and deliverance cases. We gave glory to the Lord.  Jim coached us on how important it is for us to pray for the local church leaders to sustain the move of God, to follow up with the new converts, and to disciple and raise more leaders.
