August 3, 2001 - Friday
We had communion at 10 a.m. Jim asked us to share what we thought a communion
meant. After prayer, we broke the bread, symbolic of Christ's body broken for
us on the cross. With prayer, we drank the wine/juice, symbolic of Christ's
blood shed in beatings and on the Cross for us.
Prayer Gathering
Donna, Martha (the Texan sisters), Elena, and I prayed for two hours, between
11:15 a.m. and 1:15 p.m., in the sisters' room. We prayed for Portugal, the
crusade and personal needs. Frankly, I was very tired and sleepy. Sometimes,
when I am tired I feel as if praying half-asleep and half in the Spirit. The
Lord would let me rest in Him and strengthen me. Also, He seems to mercifully
hear the prayer in my half-asleep state. Hoped today was the case, too.
Food and Spreading More Tracks
Doug and Pam had discovered a
McDonald few blocks away from Hotel Fenix. Martha craved for the American style
hamburgers and French fries. Donna, Martha and I went to look for the
restaurant. It was a sunny day, the first full sunny day since we had arrived
in Portugal. After a long wait, I got McFish and French fries. Rushed back,
gobbled them down at the meeting and waiting for Alvaro to bring us more
flyers. Then, we went to the same city square as yesterday. Walked narrow and
hilly streets in the sun and gave out crusade tracks. Lisbon truly reminded me
of the romantic city San Francisco. I enjoyed the walking and working but
sweated much.
Had dinner on the sidewalk about four blocks away from Hotel Fenix. Few team
members joined shortly after I had arrived. Vicki, Ruth, Linda and I sat at the
same table on the sidewalk. The waiter could speak English but wasn't quite
patient with all our questions and changes on the orders. Since it had seemed
hard to find vegetables, I got a chicken salad. It had too much chicken and not
enough salad. Oh, well. Thank God I finally got to eat some veggies. Got back
to the hotel and had a short rest. We headed for the subway station at 7:15
p.m.
The 3rd Awake Portugal Crusade
Steve met with us before the service. Together in the Harvest Ministry needs
more partners so the Good News and message of repentance can be preached all
over the world. International Awake crusades are costly. Awake Portugal
costs
over $100,000. Most of the foreign countries could not afford such large
expenses. The ministry with partners' backing often pays for the crusades
entirely. Steve needs more partners to support the ministry with finance and
prayer. He asked us to prepare a three-minute testimony to encourage others to
become harvest partners. The video footage would be taken after the afternoon
concert and before the evening crusade tomorrow.
Tonight, a former prostitute and AIDS patient gave testimony. She was healed of
AIDS and no longer living in sin. During the after-service prayer time, I
prayed for two ladies. My translator told me the older one was the mother of
the young woman giving testimony. She had whitish tissue in her left eye and
could not see from that eye. We prayed for her healing.
John Peter was my 16-year-old translator. Can you imagine? He is not in high
school yet and crazy about Jesus. He has been involved in the Joshua Project.
I prayed for him. I wish my own children would be on fire for the Lord like
him.
Last night, Lori and I were freezing, colder than the first crusade night. Lori
had remembered her two sweatshirts and loaned me one tonight. Lori is the
big-mama type. The XL-size bum dark blue sweatshirt sure kept me warm. (Lori's
iron also came in handy. It made my linen clothes look neat.) Lori did not
snore. Praise God! He made us roommates.
Late Night Team Meeting and Praise
Reports
We had a meeting after returning to the hotel. Quite a few team members gave
praise reports. Jim reminded us to walk in humility and broken-heartedness.
