May 19 - Paul's Story
Sister Det invited Pastor Sar Paulerk (short name: Paul) to speak to us at 5 a.m. He briefed us on His walk with Jesus in Cambodia. When Pol Pot forced everyone to leave the city he left as well. Famine existed in 16 years of his life. People ate trees to stay alive. There was the time he spent one hour to walk a distance of 100 meters. Transportation was by foot only. When the skin broke you'd tear your clothes, wrapped your feet and continued to walk. Senior Christian leaders were persecuted and sent away. After coming back to the city, Pastor Paul found three other young Christians. They loved one another dearly and started the mission outreach under communist regime.
Once a Switzerland lady working in the hospital reached out to Paul and invited him to go to the hospital to pray. By six o'clock in the morning, the guards came. They prayed and the lady left the room first. She gave the key to Paul and asked him to lock the door before leaving. Paul stayed alone, scared and did not know what to do. He prayed again, then locked the room when there was no one in sight. While he walked down the hallway a guard came his direction. Paul was frightened and thought that was the end of his future. Strangely, the guard walked by as if he saw no one. Other guards passed by and did not see Paul. He realized the Holy Spirit had miraculously made him invisible in the guards' eyes. Holy Spirit protected the few Christians left in a tragic time of persecution and political turmoil. God also gave them wisdom to share the Good News in the marketplace.
Missionaries in Cambodia
Then, missionaries came into Cambodia. Missionaries pumped in money and used 'human' ways, not necessarily the God's way, to attract believers. They criticized other missionaries from different denominations and brought division into the local body of Christ. Another persecution came. Two of the four pastors fled to the border. By God's divine appointment, Paul became the leader of the church in Cambodia. Paul thinks the two best ways for the foreign missionaries to serve in the land is to ask the locals if they have a vision. If yes, work with the locals together to fulfill the vision. If not, invite the locals to share the missionary's vision and work together to accomplish it.
More Miracles
Pastor could not study English before but the Lord gave him ability to speak English fluently. He has been invited to different countries as a speaker.
Cambodia is in need of Christian leaders. In spite of this, it has become a training ground for Christian leaders for the surrounding Asian neighbors, including Vietnam, Thailand, Laos and China.
Pastor spoke well of the Prime Minister Hunsen and the mayor of Phnom Penh. May the Lord mightily bless Cambodian government leaders to heal and restore the land.
We were thrilled and praised God that Paul could come and share his life with us. He also brought brother Norith with him. I took a photo of them and sister Det together. Later in Hong Kong, I made a huge mistake and deleted it from the digital camera. Brenda said she took a shot and would send a reprint to me. Hallelujah!
Yvonne Fellowships with Two Prayer Warriors
Betty shared verses with me by the pool after my swim. She also prayed for and anointed me. What a day I'll remember! Thank you, Jesus.
We headed for the airport at 9 a.m. We traveled west to Bangkok Thailand in order to fly east to Hong Kong. While waiting at the Bangkok airport, at first I was disappointed that the laptop's battery had no more charge. It turned out to be a blessing. I got to spend time with Betty and Pearl. These two mature, powerful lady warriors shared more verses with me. Betty told me how the Lord has trained her to be an intercessor. She also talked about how God raised her five-year-old granddaughter to praise and worship Him and be a young prayer warrior.
It was about 11 p.m. by the time we checked into the rooms in the Panda Hotel in Kowloon, a peninsula adjacent to the Hong Kong island.
